is a competition for young jazz groups and soloists up to 30 years of age. Finale round of competition Jazz Junior takes place in Prague, jazz club Jazz Dock. Czech Jazz Society chooses from received records (at least one jazz standard included). In the past, chairmans of the Junior Jazz competition jury were e.g. Hal Galper, Karel Růžička, Antonín Gondolán, Najponk, František Kop, Osian Robers…

Final round: 24th of October 2009 in Prague.
Deadline for sending the recordings: 9rd of October 2009.
Announcement of the first round results: 13th of October 2009.

The jury

The jury for the year 2009 will consist of
František Kop, Robert Balzar, Jaromír Honzák, Josef Fečo, Roman Pokorný and Karel Růžička senior.

Conditions of the competition:

• Participants of the competition may be any soloist or ensemble (all compilations/for mat­s).
• All the participants of the competition must be under 30 years old. There can not be any participant of the competition who would reach the age of 30 years on the day of the final round.
• Application for the competition is a recording on mp3 sent to our e-mail address juniorjazz@czechjazz.org until 9th of October 2009.
• Every recording must contain 3 compositions of various kinds, one of those must be a jazz standard and copy of each's participants ID card.
• A jury will announce the finalists selected from the sent recordings on the 13th of October 2009.
• Those finalists will take part in the final round of the competition in Jazz Dock Janáčkovo nábřeží 2 (náplavka) 150 00 Praha 5 – Smíchov, Czech republic.
• The ensembles taking part in the final round must be composed of the same participants as on the recordings.
• There will be free accomodation for all the finalists for one night, each ensemble or a soloist will receive 1000,– CZK for the travel costs.
• Each finalist (soloist or ensemble) will play app. 30 minutes long programme of own choice.
• The jury will announce the winner and may grant/give the awards for best soloist and best composer/arranger.

Every awarded musician will get a full scholarship for the Summer jzz workshop Prague 2010. The winning band will be offered to play a concert during the workshop in Jazz Dock club in Prague.
